Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) was running at a monthly loss of Rs. 10 million at present, Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said.
He said this during an inspection visit to the Airport yesterday.
He said MRIA was maintained with the money earned from the Katunayake Airport.
He also said a loan of USD 210 million obtained from China for the construction of the Airport was still to he paid back.
He said alternative proposals were being considered to increase the income of the Airport and stressed that it would not be sold at any time.

I do not agree with this figure. It could be more. Now there is no paddy even to use it as a warehouse. Try cow dung as an alternative.

The loan of USD 210 million should be paid by MR from his pocket. He was the architect of this lost Airport.

With what idea the Rajapakshas built this air port? To show their powers? Who will settle the debt? I hear there are only the monkies around.

Monthly loss is much higher. My estimate is around US$ 2 mn.
