Colombo city has been placed on alert to brace itself from the spread of new COVID 19 mutations after 14 people were found with such mutations within the city a few days ago, Chief Medical officer Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni said today.

Dr. Wijayamuni told the Daily Mirror that the results of the tests done on that 14 people will be sent to the Ministry of Health and the ministry will let him know about the mutation in a few days' time. "We will know about the mutation once the ministry gets back to us with the correct information," he said.

"The 14 people who tested COVID-19 positive, have been sent to a treatment centre and therefore we have to place ourselves on high alert," he added.

It was also reported earlier that most of the patients out of the 20 with the Delta variant are from Colombo. (Yohan Perera)

I think people really don’t care about mutations or virus anymore. People are fed up and not bothered or scared
