A Chinese social media platform has suspended a promotional campaign organized by the Sri Lankan embassy apparently in tit for tat for the government’s move to suspend the visit of the Chinese ship, a top source said.

The Sri Lankan authorities organized this campaign to be launched on Friday on ‘Douyin'. However, the Sri Lankan mission has been informed that it cannot be implemented.

The Sri Lankan authorities believe it has been in retaliation to Sri Lanka’s postponement of the port call of 'Yuan Wang 5' research ship following protests by India .

Also, a top source said many social media sites in China are hot with negative comments on Sri Lanka. It is also learned that some Chinese supermarkets have delayed the purchase of Sri Lankan goods. (Kelum Bandara)

China is not an invader threat to us. They are better for long term to hedge against India and against the West influence to our culture. India wants us to implement the 13th Amendment, done under pressure with Indian Military in our country at the time. There is good there like allow Tamil but Provincial Council idea is bad.

Sri Lanka should not act under pressure of INDIA any more, we are having independence which our forefathers achieved as sovereignty. Chinese' rejection of Sri Lankan market place in China for their goods and a negative campaign practiced on Sri Lanka was highly appreciable. Strange things happened in SL ever since our leaders started dealing with them heavily. A bomb blast in churches killing many innocent civilians, which gave two third majority to a China favorite government. We are also in a debt trap. They don’t want to restructure the debt but they want to give more loans. We should stop dealing with them hugely and get more closer to Europe, US, India and Japan. Dealing with China, we might get strange bomb blasts, diseases in our country where there’s no explanations. They will do everything to make sure that we are trapped in their loans and put us into a state we cannot repay and that they could take over our ports, airports and lands.

This is the problem. The Rajapaksa family took on so much debt from China that SL could never pay it back. At their whim building extravagant 'white elephant' projects that was not the necessity of the day. As a consequence, we were the first country to collapse and go bankrupt.

Srilanka must have an indépendant policy. Unfortunately its economy doesn’t permit to act according its willingness. The srilankans shouldn’t forget any country who helped them when they were in difficulties. As you know very well India helps its neighboring countries but never threat and treat them as slaves unlike China.
