Colombo, July 24 (Daily Mirror) - The no-confidence motion brought against Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara was defeated in Parliament by a majority of 116 votes, with 36 MPs voting in favour and 152 against.
Some MPs were absent at the time of voting. These included members of Tamil parties and some MPs from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
The Daily Mirror reliably learnt that Tamil parties would vote with the opposition in the future if the government fails to hold Provincial Council elections.
However, MP Gejendrakumar Ponnambalam voted in favour of the motion.
