Dead dolphin found washed ashore in Wilpattu national park

A dead dolphin was found washed ashore in the Kollankanatta area of Wilpattu National Park on Monday evening (30), wildlife officials said.

According to officials attached to Wilpattu National Park, the carcass was discovered during a routine patrol operation. Preliminary observations revealed signs of injuries consistent with entanglement in a fishing net.

Officials further said that the Eluwankulam Wildlife Sanctuary has been informed and will take the necessary action regarding the incident.

The discovery has raised concerns over the impact of fishing activities on marine wildlife in the region.
