Ranjan, Prasanna top Gampaha list

Former MP Ranjan Ramanayaka has obtained 216,463 preferential votes in the UNP lists in the Gampha district while Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has topped the UPFA list with 384,448 preferential votes.

Ranil tops with over 500,000 votes in Colombo

Incumbent Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has topped the UNP Colombo district list with 500,566votes. UPFA former parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, who obtained 313,801 votes, has topped the UPFA list.

Modi congratulates Ranil

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called up Ranil Wickremesinghe to congratulate him on his party's victory in Sri Lankan parliamentary polls, and expressed confidence that the relations between the two countries will get better under his leadership.

MR, Akila top Kurunegala list

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who contested the parliamentary election in the Kurunegala District secured 423, 529 preferential votes while Akila Viraj Kariyawasam topped the UNP list with 286, 155 preferential votes.

The Elections Department allocated the bonus seats as follows: UNP-13 seats; UPFA-12; JVP-2 and ITAK-2.

Range Bandara leads Puttalam list

UNP’s Palitha Range Bandara topped the party’s Puttalam district list with 66, 960 preferential votes while Niroshan Perera (59, 337), Hector Appuhamy (55, 475), Shantha Abeysekara (36, 390) and Ashoka Priyantha (35, 418) placed at the second, third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

Kiriella tops Kandy list

Lakshman Kiriella has topped the UNP list in Kandy with 199,046 preferential votes while Mayantha Dissanayake, Abdul Haleem, Rauff Hakeem, Lucky Jayawardane and Ananda Aluthgamage obtained preferential votes 111,190, 111, 011, 102,186, 67, 461, 67, 461 and 56, 625 respectively.

Aluvihare, Lakshman lead in Matale

Wasantha Aluwihare has topped the UNP list in Matale with 75,926 preferential votes while Ranjith Aluwihare and R. Kaviratne made it to the first and the second places of the list respectively with 74,785 and 41,766 preferential votes.

Harin obtains over 200,000 preferential votes

Uva Province Chief Minister Harin Fernando made it to the first place in the Badulla district UNP list with 200,806 preferential votes while Ravindra Samaraweera came in the second place with 58,507 votes.

Sajith, Namal top Hambantota lists

Former MP Namal Rajapaksa topped the UPFA Hambantota list with 127,201 preferential votes, while Mahinda Amaraweera, Chamal Rajapaksa and D.V. Chanaka placed at the second, third and fourth places respectively.

Wasantha leads in Polonnaruwa

UNP Polonnaruwa District candidate Wasantha Senanayake has topped the UNP list with 75,652 preferential votes, while Roshan Ranasinghe made it to the first place of the UPFA list with 76,825 preferential votes.

The United National Party (UNP) obtained 118,845 votes from Polonnaruwa, the home town of President Maithripala Sirisena, and won three seats while the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) obtained only 103,173 votes. The UPFA won three seats.  

ITAK wins five seats in Jaffna

Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK), a main constituent party of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) secured five seats from Jaffna District with 207,577 votes. The Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) and the United National Party (UNP) won one seat each after obtaining 30,232 and 20,025 votes respectively.

UPFA wins Hambantota district

The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has won the Hambantota District and secured four seats, while UNP with 130,433 votes (35.65%) has secured two seats.

MR concedes election defeat

Former president Mahinda Rajapakse told AFP today that he had conceded defeat in parliamentary elections, but he will work as an opposition member of the legislature.

UNP takes Galle polling division

United National Party (UNP) topped the Galle polling division in the Galle district with 33,798 votes (57.61%). The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) obtained 19,613votes (33.43%) while the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) obtained 4,777 votes (8.14%) and Bodu Jana Peramuna (BJP) obtained 139 votes (0.14%).

United National Party (UNP) topped the postal votes in the Trincomalee district with 5,215 votes (48.79%) while United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) obtained 2,894 votes (27.08).

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) topped the postal votes in the Ratnapura district with 11,368 votes (49.46%) while the United National Party (UNP) obtained 9,673 votes (42.09%). The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) obtained 1808 votes (7.87%).
