Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who contested the parliamentary election in the Kurunegala District secured 423, 529 preferential votes while Akila Viraj Kariyawasam topped the UNP list with 286, 155 preferential votes.

Dayasiri Jayasekara came second in the UPFA list with 133, 832 preferential votes while T.B. Ekanayake (82, 789), Anura Priyadarshana Yapa (77, 057), Johnston Fernando (76, 714), Salinda Dissanayake (54, 318), Indika Bandaranayake (46, 356) and Tharanath Basnayake (43, 020) came third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth places respectively.

Meanwhile, J.C. Alawathuwala (106, 061), Gamini Jayawickreme Perera (83, 346), Nalin Bandara Jayamaha (80, 063), S.B. Navinna (76, 714), Ashoka Abeysinghe (73, 184) and Idunil Amarasena (64, 359) came second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions respectively.
