SLIM holds Education Reforms Committee meeting for 2015/16

Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) has outlined plans to develop its educational programmes and produce marketers who will be geared to meet the requirements of a globalized industry.

The Institute aims to enhance the quality of marketing education by strengthening relationships with educational institutes in Sri Lanka and ensuring international standards are maintained in the delivery of marketing education.

SLIM arrived at these and several other important decisions during the first meeting of its Education Reforms Committee (ERC) for the academic year 2015/16 held recently. G. S. Sylvester, the outgoing Chairman of the ERC, was reappointed as the Chairman for the academic year 2015/16.

The primary objective of this quarterly meeting is to propose improvements to all educational programs, make recommendations, evaluate results of examinations, and provide solutions to matters raised by SLIM Education.

Dayawansa Committee Member/ Assistant General Manager, Specialized Financial Services, Hatton National Bank, Rohan Somawansa Committee member/ General Manager - Marketing, D Samson & Sons Pvt Ltd, Tilan Wijeyesekera Committee Member/ Deputy General Manager - Marketing, Seylan Bank PLC, Ravi Bamunusinghe Committee Member/ Managing Director Research Consultancy Bureau, Amithe Gamage Committee Member/ Marketer, Trainer and Lecturer, Nalin Munasinghe Committee Member/ National Programme Manager, Sri Lanka UN-REDD Programme and Rohan Laksiri Committee Member/ Head of Department of Marketing University of Ruhuna were in attendance at the meeting.

The representatives of SLIM included Ruwan Liyanagamage – President, Elangovan Karthik - Vice President – Education, Pradeep Edward – Secretary, Sanath Senanayake - Chief Executive Officer, Chinthaka Wanasinghe - Assistant General Manager – Marketing, and SLIM Education staff members.
Ruwan Liyanagamage – President – SLIM expressed confidence that this meeting would benefit the marketing industry as a whole.

The latest efforts by SLIM to develop world class marketers by enhancing its educational products will enrich the marketing field nationally and help Sri Lanka stand tall on the international stage.”

. Sanath Senanayake- CEO /Executive Director – SLIM stated that, “The first ERC meeting of a year is always an important one but this year it has added significance because of the decisions we have taken in order to improve the quality of marketing education at SLIM.”
