June.05 (Mirror Sports) - Trinity outclassed Wesley by 43 points to 10 in their Cup segment match of the Dialog Schools Rugby league tournament played at Havelock Park. It turned out to a one-sided affair as the Lions dominated proceedings and had things their own way.
Trinity, having led 19-0 at the breather made up their points through four goals and three tries to the two tries scored by Wesley. The Lions went on the rampage in the second half after Number Eight Achintha Jayasena in the eighth minute, scrum half Udan Wijekoon in the 15th minute and flanker Nisith Kumarasinghe in the 26th minute went over for three tries. Skipper and full back Shan Althaf booted over two conversions to lead 19-0 at lemons.
On resumption Trinity made their first scoring move in the second minute which as Evin Jayasena touched down while Shan Althaf added the extra points.
Trinity increased their lead with skipper Althaf going over for a try in the 14th minute but he missed the conversion. Six minutes later Wesley managed to breach the Trinity defence for an unconverted try scored by winger Prathana Rodrigo but Trinity stretched their lead from a try scored by second row Akash Fernando and Althaf made the conversion.
Trinity was way ahead with a score of 38-5 and four minutes away from the long whistle Wesley’s hooker scored their second try but the conversion was fluffed.
With a minute left for the long whistle Achintha Jayasena went over for his second try of the match which sealed a comfortable 43-10 win for Trinity.
