Sangakkara Joins Women Cricketers’ Transformation Meeting


June.05 (Mirror Sports) - Players of the National Team, Sri Lanka ‘A’, and Under-19 teams participated in the meeting, which was chaired by Eran Wickramaratne, Chairman of the Cricket Transformation Committee.

Other members of the committee, namely Prakash Schaffter, Honorary Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket; Sidath Wettimuny, Chairman of the Cricket Committee; Roshan Mahanama; and Kumar Sangakkara, also took part in the meeting.

Dinal Phillips, President’s Counsel; Upul Kumarapperuma, President’s Counsel; Avanthi Colombage; and Thushira Raddella, who are also members of the Cricket Transformation Committee, were present alongside Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, and Jamie Siddons, Head Coach of the Sri Lanka National Women’s Team.

Addressing the women cricketers, Eran Wickramaratne commended the remarkable progress of women’s cricket in Sri Lanka and described the team’s Asia Cup triumph as “rewriting the history of women’s cricket in Sri Lanka.”

While praising the players for their dedication and hard work, Wickramaratne stated that the Cricket Transformation Committee would work towards ensuring that women’s cricket receives the same level of attention, opportunities, and support afforded to men’s cricket.

He also conveyed his best wishes to the Sri Lanka National Women’s Team ahead of their participation in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

In addition, Wickramaratne, Sidath Wettimuny, Kumar Sangakkara, and Roshan Mahanama addressed the players, offering valuable advice on building successful cricketing careers while maintaining a strong focus both on and off the field.

The cricketing greats emphasized that teamwork is the foundation of success and stressed the importance of every player understanding and fulfilling their role within the team to achieve positive results.
