Colombo High Court yesterday issued warrants for the arrest of former DIG Vaas Gunawardena’s wife Shamali Perera Gunawardena and Ex SI Indika Pushpakumara for absconding court yesterday in the case against them for allegedly abducting and assaulting a student of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) Nipuna Ramanayake in August 2009.

High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja issued the warrant for the arrest of the two accused who are the first and the sixth accused in the case being observed that the accused were not present in court yesterday for the trial. They were earlier released on bail.

The Attorney General had filed indictments against eight accused including former DIG Vass Gunawardena, his son Ravindu Vaas Gunawardena, his wife Shyamali Priyadharshani Perera and five police officers Indika Pushpa Kumara, P.D. Priyankara de Silva, Y.M. Lakshman Thilakaratne, D.M.S. Sandun Dissanayake and Saman Vithana who were attached to the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) at the time of the incident .-They were indicted under 13 counts including the abduction and assault of Nipuna Ramanayake.

Tactfully inefficient. When it is arresting Aragalaya persons, it is fast. Vaas is a senior Policemen, hench-aiya and Sinhalese which is the criteria to do thuggery and criminality with impunity. So 13y case is running, even the judges

13y still going on when the case looks very clear. We need to use technology and update everything. At the next election, please send intelligent youngsters to parliament from all parties. Defeat anyone over 45 and anyone who was a minister or state minister for more than 5 plus years as they have failed to update everything with latest technology.

We can understand the influence and pressure on judicial officers, when the offender is a boot licker of corrupt Paks. The judges and duty conscious Govt. Servants, including Auditors are virtually paralyzed in this instant. What happened to Mihin Lanka Bond audit? With the Kandy to Colombo Pagamana, the matter had a natural death, I wonder! That is the last we heard of it.

People should reject all lawyers above 45 years. They are crooks too. The legal system in SL is way inefficient, sluggish and corrupt.
