Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof has clarified recent media speculation regarding his position, stating that he had earlier informed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of his desire to step down from the post. In a statement, Yusoof said the decision was prompted by the growing challenge of balancing his duties as Governor, his additional role as the President’s Special Envoy for Foreign Direct Investment, and his family responsibilities. >>A2
“It has been a privilege to serve in public office and to contribute, in whatever way I can, to the progress of our nation,” he said.
However, Yusoof noted that at the request of the President, he would continue to serve as Governor until a suitable successor is identified to ensure a smooth and orderly transition.
He further stated that following his departure from the governorship, he hopes to continue serving in his voluntary honorary role as Special Envoy to the President for Foreign Direct Investment.
Yusoof said he remains committed to supporting the President’s vision by using his international networks and relationships to help attract foreign investment and contribute to Sri Lanka’s national development.
