President or govt. cannot take political decisions on opposition MPs’ security: SJB

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) General Secretary Ranjith  Madduma Bandara said the President or the government cannot take  political decisions on opposition MPs’ security.   

He told a news conference that the IGP must provide the required security to the MPs.   

“He is an independent official. He is appointed by the Constitutional Council. It is not a political appointment,” he said.  The MP said government MPs and Ministers are provided with  security by respective police stations when they go to their electorates  and pointed out that such security is not provided to opposition MPs.   

“Police must take action to provide security. There is a serious security threat,” he said.
