The Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wootler, has urged the public to refrain from posting selfies on social media that reveal their location during excursions, pilgrimages, or trips throughout the upcoming festive season.
Speaking at a special media briefing held yesterday (11) at the Police Media Division Auditorium in Suhurupaya, Battaramulla, ASP Wootler cautioned that such posts could provide valuable information to criminals, including those targeting homes or individuals while they are away.
He advised the public, especially parents, to be mindful of what they share online, noting that “sharing your location through a selfie is not appropriate. It can only be an advantage for a criminal who is following you or someone keeping track of your home.”
Wootler further highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety and reliability of vehicles used for festive travel. He advised travellers to carefully consider the vehicle condition, the driver’s credibility, and ownership details before setting out.
Police have urged citizens to prioritize personal safety and privacy while celebrating responsibly during the festive period.
