A stock of live ammunition has been recovered from the ceiling of the Jaffna University library during repairs to the roof on Thursday evening.
The workers who carried out repairs had noticed a suspicious parcel wrapped in papers and informed the officials. Police who initiated investigations recovered two magazines loaded with 56 live cartridges. Police said the two magazines contained more than 50 live cartridges.
During investigations, the police searched the suspicious areas in the library buildings and collected the fingerprints. They had recovered blood-stained clothes and a roll of wire during the search operation.
Kopay Police are conducting further investigations to identify the individuals who had hidden the stock of ammunition in the library buildings.
