Claiming that the opposition is not against the government’s proposal to pay Rs. 200 daily allowance for estate workers, Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) leader and opposition MP Mano Ganesan said the government must take the responsibility if any legal issue arises due to allocation of state funds to make the payment.  The MP told Parliament that he was pleased about the government’s proposal and said that they are not against the move.

He said certain Samagi Jana Balawegaya MPs had raised concerns over the proposal as allocating state funds to make the payment could lead to legal issues.

“SJB MPs are not against the payment of Rs. 200 allowance. What they have raised is whether it could lead to legal issues when allocating public funds to make such a payment. We are not against it. However, if any legal issue arises, the government must take the responsibility,” he said.

The MP also urged the government not to restrict the issues of the estate workers only to their wages.
