Prageeth Sampath Karunathilaka
The Daily Mirror triumphed at this year’s Presidential Media Awards, securing accolades in three major categories - Best Cartoon, Best Feature Article and Best Investigative Press.
Daily Mirror journalist L.B. Senarathe won the Best News Report of the Year for 2023.
In the Best Feature Article category, Prageeth Sampath Karunathilaka of the Daily Mirror was honored for his impactful piece, “Kidney Patients in Jeopardy Due to Fungal Allergy.”
Karunathilaka also won the Best Investigative Press – English award for his investigative article, “Nuwara Eliya Patients Can’t Believe Their Eyes After…”, demonstrating outstanding journalism and investigative reporting.
Cartoonist Namal Amarasinghe was recognized with the Best Cartoon (Editorial Cartoon) award for his work in the Tamil Mirror, highlighting his exceptional contribution to political and social commentary through art.
The Special Jury Award for Best Page Design – Common went to R.M. Asitha D. Rathnayake for the Sunday Times Newspaper.
These awards highlight Daily Mirror’s continued commitment to excellence in journalism, editorial creativity, and investigative reporting.
Former Lankadeepa Editor Siri Ranasinghe was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award along with four other winners.
The “Presidential Media Awards – 2025” was held yesterday at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, to recognize journalists for their contributions towards a credible and responsible media.
