The story published under the headline “Sri Lanka is the second most expensive country in South Asia to live in” came to the limelight in Parliament yesterday when Opposition MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena referred to it.

“The Daily Mirror report published on October 31, 2025 says Sri Lanka is the second most expensive country in South Asia to live in”. The government should make a serious note of this,” the MP said.

“The government should be aware of the sentiments expressed by the people at the grassroots level. If you got into a three-wheeler in 2022, the driver would criticize the then government. They destroyed the nation. The three-wheeler drivers used to say. However, you should listen to what they say today as they have become critical of the present government,” he added.

The MP recalled that the ruling party MPs applauded the President 83 times during the budget debate. “We also used to applaud our presidents in the past.
