Closeness to the people will prevent my political downfall: MR

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated yesterday that his enduring and deep-rooted connection with the people will safeguard him against any political downfall.

“No one will be able to destroy me politically because of the close relationship I have with the people,” Rajapaksa said in a recent social media post.

He emphasised that his engagement with the public has been built over many years, founded on mutual trust and respect rather than personal or political gain.

“My bond with the people is not driven by petty interests. It is a relationship of trust and respect, nurtured over a long period. Therefore, any attempts to undermine me politically will ultimately strengthen that connection,” he said.

Rajapaksa further added, “I have experienced all that a leader can enjoy through being close to the people. Attempts to destroy me will only reinforce that bond.”
