The Catholic Church of Sri Lanka yesterday urged the government to carryout a fresh probe on the “bomb drama” at All Saints Church Borella which took place exactly three years ago and bring the perpetrators to book.
A protest was held yesterday morning to mark the third anniversary of the incident where a hand grenade was found inside the church on January 11, 2022.The caretaker of the church was arrested then in connection of this and later he was released. The Church then said that he was harassed and his human rights were violated by these acts.
National Catholic Communications Director Fr. Jude Chryshantha told media during the protest that the Church would urge the incumbent President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the government and the IGP to carry out a fresh probe on the incident.
“It was reported that a suspect was caught during the last regime. We would like to see what the present government will do about this suspect. The government should look into this, “ he said.
Also he said a comprehensive investigation should be carried out on the matter and highlighted that the actions of former IGP Deshabandu Thennakoon were suspicious .” Mr. Thennakoon instructed that only CCTV clips which were recorded during the evening should be looked into. However, the perpetrator was seen placing the bomb inside the church in another clips recorded in the morning,” Fr. Jude added.
