Smith to open for Australia in Tests

Colombo, Jan. 10 (Daily Mirror) - Australia has chosen Steve Smith to take on the role of opener in the upcoming first Test clash against the West Indies.

The highly anticipated match is slated to commence on January 17 at the iconic Adelaide Oval.

Despite being 34 years old, he has never opened the batting in Test cricket. However, since his debut for the team in 2010, he has played in every position from No.3 down to No.9, initially selected as a leg-spinning all-rounder.

Nevertheless, Australia has added Renshaw and fast bowler Scott Boland to their 13-player squad.

In a tour match ahead of the Test series, the West Indians were 251-8 at stumps on day one against a Cricket Australia XI.
