CAASL chief named Asia-Pacific Aviation Security chair

Colombo, June 7 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka has secured a key leadership role in regional aviation security, with the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Civil Aviation, Captain Daminda Rambukwella, being appointed Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Aviation Security Programme (CASP-AP) for 2026/2027.

The appointment comes as Sri Lanka prepares to host two major international aviation security summits from June 23 to 26, bringing together nearly 100 delegates from 30 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) said the events are being organized under the guidance of the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation, with the support of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and its Asia-Pacific Regional Office.

The 21st Steering Committee Meeting of the Cooperative Aviation Security Programme – Asia and Pacific (CASP-AP) will begin on June 23 under the patronage of Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilake. The meeting will be followed by the 14th ICAO Asia-Pacific Regional Aviation Security Coordination Forum (RASCF).

Captain Rambukwella said the appointment would provide an opportunity to elevate Sri Lanka’s best practices in aviation regulation to the international stage while strengthening cooperation on aviation security across the region.

He said that hosting the summits would also help Sri Lanka gain valuable expertise, enhance its international profile in the aviation sector, and create opportunities to promote tourism and other economic benefits through visiting delegates and experts.
