Selvasekaran’s remarkable bowling stuns cricket


Nov 28, (AU) - A 10-year-old Sri Lankan youngster is off to a great start in his cricket journey after taking figures that have to be seen to be believed.

A 10-year-old Sri Lankan has stunned the cricket world with his insane figures in a school match over the weekend.

Playing in an under-13 division II match, Selvasekaran Rishiyudhan was simply unplayable as he won his school a match almost single-handedly.

His school, Hindu College Colombo had scored 9/126 when Rishiyudhan demolished MDH Jayawardene MV.

Rishiyudhan returned insane figures of eight wickets for zero runs off 9.4 overs, which obviously included nine maidens.

It helped his side bowl the opposition out for just 28.

It was an incredible performance which has put the youngster’s name up in lights around the world.

While he lives in a country that has produced the greatest wickettaker in cricket history in Muttiah Muralitharan (800 Test wickets, 1347 across all formats), as well as the greatest left arm spinner in Test cricket history in Rangana Herath, who had 433 wickets, Rishiyudhan admitted he wants to follow in the footsteps of Australia’s Nathan Lyon.

“I know (how) to bowl six types of deliveries. These include off-spin, leg-spin, carrom ball, loop, flat loop and fast ball,”.

“My favourite bowler is Nathan Lyon. I like to bowl like him. I want to play for Sri Lanka at the age of 19.”

The school paid tribute to the youngster’s feat.

“Outstanding performance, Congratulations to Master Selvasakaran Rishiyudhan for a remarkable bowling spell: 9.4 overs, 9 maidens, 0 runs, and a stunning 8 wickets,” the school said.

“Hindu College Colombo dominated, bowling out the opposition for just 28 runs and securing victory in the 1st innings of the inter-school cricket Under 13 Division II encounter.”
