Colombo, July 10 (Daily Mirror) - Former Parliamentarian Duminda Dissanayake, who had been discharged earlier in the case relating to the gold plated T56 rifle seized from a bag belonging to an elderly woman in a Havelock housing complex in Wellawatta, was re-produced as a suspect before Mount Lavinia Acting Magistrate Ravi Matugama today and released on personal bail of two sureties of Rs.5 million each.

Terrorism Investigation Division officers submitted to court that the fourth suspect Duminda Dissanayake had been discharged by court based on insufficient evidence against the suspect prior to the receipt of the Attorney General’s instructions on the extracts submitted to him.

The TID told court that they recorded a further statement from the first suspect on which the Attorney General instructed to release her from the case and to include again the fourth suspect in the case in view of the evidence that he had aided and abetted the second suspect to keep the firearm in her possession.

The officials further submitted that the Attorney General’s Department has informed that step would be taken to file indictments before the High Court against the suspect.

President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis appearing for the suspect Duminda Dissanayake told court the suspect had been discharged on July 29, 2025 in the absence of evidence to connect him to the incident and that he would challenge the case against the suspect before the High Court.

The case was postponed for December 11.
