Sri Lanka Tourism organized a special luncheon and breakfast for foreign tourists who are currently staying in the country due to disruptions caused by the Middle East crisis. Many visitors have been unable to return home following flight cancellations, airport closures and the suspension of several airline services in the region. As a result, a number of tourists have experienced unexpected delays in their travel plans. Pix by Pradeep Pathirana

Benevolence or giving help to others is a trait that have been with our people for thousands of years. Buddha said, giving food is of great merit to people who are in need. Even though the tourists may be from other nations, still they have been our relatives in the past lives many a times.

Compassion for others. No problem. What about our own people who have no home or food after the Ditwah disaster? they are still living in camps and suffering greatly. How about using some of that extra money to help them too. A special meal even once in a way would help them a lot. Of course, they won't be able to give something back; not even a good review I suppose.

There is an old man day or night sleep rough in the rain and hot sun under a bus shelter outside foodcity, next to NOLIMIT in Galle Road, Wellewatte. He needs a good scrubbing and washing. Then feed him too as he must be hungry. Please pay attention and humanity, as this person has no one to turn to for help except the govt. Also help tourists as they bring foreign exchange to the country.

This is a great demonstration of the large heartedness of Sri Lankan Hospitality. Perhaps this is about the what Hinduism talks about "Adithey Bawa"- a guest is an image of the supreme being. Unfortunately, this large heartedness of sharing ones food is hard to find in the 'Sudha' Culture.

Ha! Ha! I hope they were charged for their meals? If not, then this is the most disgraceful example of double standards in Sri Lanka. The poor are starving and the rich are feasting. Work that one out!!!

Sorry to say this, but why are we not charging people who can afford a holiday here? Media reports are not showing stranded tourists being given free food anywhere else, even in the rich gulf states! All tourists should have travel insurance, or at the very least, credit or debit cards with them. Let’s face facts, with the poor rupee/ dollar exchange rate, they can well afford a basic meal here, and there are clean chain food outlets. Also, if I’m not mistaken they become the responsibility of the airline not the country visiting.
