Delft road work begins



Development work on the Maveli–Periyathurai road section in Delft Island, Jaffna District, commenced on Saturday (July 5), marking a significant step towards improving connectivity and infrastructure in the island region.

The project covers the stretch from 3.650 km to 5.350 km and is being implemented under the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development at an estimated cost of Rs. 135.9 million. Construction work officially began today and is scheduled for completion by October 4, 2026.

The road development project aims to enhance daily transportation facilities for residents of Delft Island, support economic and social activities, and strengthen regional infrastructure development.
