Clean-up launched in flood-hit Biyagama

A special clean-up operation was carried out in the Biyagama area last week by local authorities with the support of the corporate sector to remove garbage and debris left behind by recent floods.

The floods had caused extensive damage across residential, commercial, warehouse and industrial zones, generating large volumes of waste. As displaced residents began returning to their homes, garbage accumulated along roadsides, creating foul odours and posing serious public health risks.

The clean-up effort was spearheaded by Minister Anura Karunathilaka, MP Ashoka Ranwala and Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Lal Kumarapeli, with logistical assistance provided by the Lion Brewery Company. The operation was successfully completed by Sunday evening.
