National Chamber announces National Business Excellence Awards for 12th year

The National Chamber of Commerce recently announced the launch of “National Business Excellence Awards (NBEA)” for the 12th consecutive year. 
The event was held with the presence of  several distinguished guests. The National Chamber of Commerce President Thilak Godamanna, The National Chamber of Commerce Immediate Past President and NBEA Steering Committee Chairman Sunil G Wijesinha, Orange Electric Managing Director Kushan Kodituwakku; Overall Gold Award Winner – NBEA 2014, University of Moratuwa Chairman and Civil Engineering Seniour Professor Prof. Malik Ranasinghe just to name a few.

 “This is a flagship event of the National Chamber of Commerce and is considered the best award scheme in the country,” stressed Godamanna speaking about event.

The one of its kind award scheme evaluates companies based on a well defined evaluation model that comprises of awards given for Excellence in Leadership, Excellence in Corporate Governance, Excellence in Capacity Building, Excellence in Performance Management, Excellence in Local and Global Market Reach, Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability finally leading to the most prestigious - Excellence in Business Financial Results Award.

It’s not always possible to reach overall business excellence overnight, that is why we encourage people to be excellent even in one of this categories, noted Godamanna.

“NBEA covers a wide spectrum of business activities in an organization, therefore we want this to be the best in this part of the world,” reiterated Wijesinha pointing out the other globally recognized award systems in Japan, Singapore, India and The United States.

He further added that the Chamber in the future would refine the standards of the award scheme up to a globally accepted level.

“We believe that the scheme is very comprehensive, and almost every year we are refining it, this year we have refined it slightly, next year we will further refine it and very soon we will bring it up to the level of Malcolm Baldrige Award of US or the European Quality Excellence Model,” he stressed.
