Exide wins Merit award at National Quality Awards

Associated Battery Manufacturers (Ceylon) Limited, the manufacturers of lead acid automotive batteries  in Sri Lanka, was honoured with the Merit Certification for manufacturing sector (medium scale) in Sri Lanka, at the National Quality Awards 2015 held at BMICH recently.  
National Quality Awards is organized by Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI), the national Standards Body of Sri Lanka every year in order to recognize the Sri Lankan Organizations that excel in quality management and quality achievement.  
The National Quality Award recognizes quality excellence based on the world renowned Malcolm Baldrige model.  It is judged by a panel of industry experts/business leaders against an in-depth scoring criterion covering seven key areas namely leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, workforce, operational focus and results.
ABM is a subsidiary of Exide Industries Limited – India.  The Company manufactures the widest range of Lead Acid Batteries from 25Ah to 200Ah capacity under the brand names Exide, Lucas, and Dagenite. 
Since its inception in 1960, ABM has been able to stay in the local market  as the market leader in spite of the tremendous competition that it face from the imported Batteries.  This is due to the fact that it produces high quality tropicalized Batteries which suit climatic conditions & rugged roads.  The Company has grown steadily and modernized its manufacturing processes and constant innovations have helped the company to produce a high quality battery.
In 2008, ABM was honoured with the World Quality Commitment Award by Business Initiative Directions in Paris.  Apart from the World Quality Commitment Award, ABM was also bestowed with other awards in 2009 including CNCI Achievers (Bronze) Award, National Business Excellence (Merit Award), National Decent Work Award (Silver).  The company was also upgraded to ISO 9001: 2008 and ISO 14001 certification.
