Singapore-based security giant Certis CISCO’s subsidiary e-Cop is looking at entering the Sri Lankan market to provide cyber security services to local corporations in the near future.

“We are looking at setting up a centre here. We are exploring the possibilities,” Certis CISCO Vice President Edwin Lim said at an event organized by the company to attract clientele from the local financial sector. He noted that e-Cop is examining the Sri Lankan regulations relating to information security. Both he and Certis CISCO International Business Development Assistant Vice President Desmond Han had met with the Sri Lankan government’s Information Communication Technology Agency officials during their brief stay.

Han noted that as a cyber security company founded in Asia for Asian companies, e-Cop would be better suited for Sri Lankan companies than the global leaders.

“The world leaders in the US or Europe, they may sell you a security server, but they won’t give you the care you need. Their first and foremost priority is the world’s biggest companies there. After that they will come to you. But we are the best for regional companies, and we’re growing,” he stressed.

While saying that initial surveillance for Sri Lankan companies would have to be done at one of the 9 e-Cop security operations centres in Asia such as India or Singapore, Han said that e-Cop would eventually have to set up a physical presence in Sri Lanka to respond to attacks even faster.

He noted that Certis CISCO’s joint venture company Certis Lanka will provide e-Cop with the initial customer base and support services in Sri Lanka.

According to Lim, e-Cop provides 24-hours security to businesses, protecting them prior to and during attacks, and providing post-attack analysis. He said that in addition to managed security, professional security and technology consulting, e-Cop will conduct workshops for employees of a client corporation, as human error is the biggest threat to cyber security.

“We have 15 years of experience, and we have found the best security solutions for every sector, be it banks, utilities, governments or manufacturing. Every business can have its own security operations, but can they benchmark it against their opponents? We can do that,” Lim added.

He said that specialized cyber security is needed for every business sector, as most cyber attacks are financially driven, and 2014 had witnessed over 50 billion cyber attacks.

e-Cop has an impressive track record; building, operating and transferring the Omani national CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team), and being recognized by IT industry research leaders Gartner and Forrester, in addition to its client base in over 15 countries.

Certis CISCO is a subsidiary of the Singapore government-owned Temasek Holdings Private Limited, which is one of the largest investment groups in the world. (CW)
