The small-scale gem industrialists in Monaragala expressed their concerns, highlighting the hardships they face when running this cottage industry and urged the authorities to provide formal training in lapidary. 
Now that the training centres established by the government to facilitate them no longer function, they stressed the need to resolve this issue, in the interest of the gem industry.
