Sri Lanka’s rich handloom heritage took center stage at the ‘Ransalu’ National Handloom and Textile Industry Sales Fair.

From 4 to 6 April, the Nuga Sevana premises at BMICH, Colombo, transformed into a colorful tapestry of woven artistry, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Organized by the Department of Textile Industries under the Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, and graced by Minister Sunil Handunnetti, the event showcased the timeless skill and resilience of the island’s handloom community.

Very good move, people should start buying environment friendly hand loom products and it will in turn help the development of S M E sector.

Agreed. SL has superior quality fabrics from this sector.. Sadly, I think people appreciate low quality Western stuff more. There should be a concentrated marketing effort because only a couple of well-known names are in the market today while there seem to be a lot more producers around. Relying only on the tourist market and places like Laksala is not enough.
