Schokman & Samerawickreme’s art auction on April 6



Auction house Schokman & Samerawickreme is set to host its highly anticipated Art Auction on April 6 at its flagship showroom and sales centre in Colombo 05. 

As Sri Lanka’s leading auctioneers of art, antiques, furniture, motor vehicles, land, buildings, and machinery, Schokman & Samerawickreme has built an enduring reputation for professionalism and reliability over the past 133 years.

We have also included paintings from budding artists, enabling them to showcase their artwork. As one of the major art auctions organised by Schokman & Samerawickreme each year, Collector’s Edition: Vol. III is a landmark occasion for art collectors, investors, and enthusiasts alike. This year’s auction will feature approximately 40 artists, making it a compelling event for all art connoisseurs.

Collector’s Edition: Vol. III will feature approximately 75 exceptional paintings alongside a selection of art-related books. The auction will feature masterpieces by some of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated artists, including members of the revered ‘43 Group’, namely George Keyt, Ivan Peries, L.T.P. Manjusri, George Claessen and Richard Gabriel.

Beyond the works of the ‘43 Group, the auction will also present pieces by acclaimed artists such as Stanley Kirinde, A.C.G.S. Amarasekera, Maisie de Silva and contemporary artists such as Raja Segar, Ranjith Perera, Jagath Weerasinghe, Amaresh Pereira, Dulika Silva and Tilak Samarawickrema. Additionally, this year’s auction will include rare antique paintings by international artists with a connection to Sri Lanka such as George Deakins, Lydia Beresford Bruce and Jan Korthals.

Interested collectors will also have the opportunity to view the paintings in person over three days from 3rd to 5th April, providing them with a closer look at the artistry of each piece. During the auction, a live digital display of each piece will accompany the proceedings, ensuring an engaging experience for attendees.

The auction will commence at 10.00 a.m. on 6th April at Schokman & Samerawickreme’s showroom on Isipathana Mawatha. An auction catalogue will be available from 29th March, allowing prospective buyers to review the artworks in advance. The catalogue will be accessible via Schokman & Samerawickreme’s website and social media platforms.
