Maga Engineering awarded US$ 7.26mn contract to expand BIA passenger terminal



The Cabinet has approved the awarding of a contract to M/s Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. for the expansion of passenger terminal facilities at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, aimed at increasing capacity for departing passengers.

The project involves the construction of a new terminal building equipped with 36 check-in counters and six departure gates under the infrastructure development programme to expand passenger handling capacity.

The Cabinet, at its meeting held on February 9, 2025, had approved the implementation of the procurement process for the project. Following an International Competitive Procurement Procedure, three bids were received for the construction work.

After evaluating the bids, the High-Level Standing Procurement Committee recommended awarding the contract to M/s Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd., identified as the lowest responsive bidder.

Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation to award the contract at a cost of US$ 7.26 million (excluding VAT) and Rs. 3.77 billion (excluding VAT).
