The Beach Cleanup Project from Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia to Colombo Port City was started on the 04th of January 2020, with the intervention of Colombo Port City, Wana Arana Environmental Conservation organization, Central Environmental Authority, Department of Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management, Colombo Municipal Council and Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council.

The ‘Beautiful Beach’ (Lassana Werala) project marked its successful third year on 4th of January 2023, with the support of the institutions. The beach area residents, tourist hotels, and visitors commented on the success of the project.

The project, which involves the ‘Melting Point Project’ signed an agreement with the Sri Lanka Railway Department and the Marine Environment Protection Authority in 2023.

The Melting Point Project produces goods through metal recycling, and its only aim in joining the ‘Beautiful Beach’ project was to improve itself and reduce environmental pollution. All the cans collected in the “Beautiful Beach” project will be transported from Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Railway Station to Pilimathalawa Railway Station and then to the Melting Point recycling center in Pilimathalawa to produce valuable decorative products.

The Melting Point project hopes to sell manufactured products to consumers in Sri Lanka and foreign shores to contribute to the country’s economy. The products produced by the Melting Point process will be procured from their location on the beach of Mount Lavinia.
