Lanka Milk Foods recovers Rs. 309.3mn in long-standing legal battle

Lanka Milk Foods (CWE) PLC, the dairy and beverage manufacturer behind household brands such as Lakspray, Ambewela, Daily, My Juicee, and BLU, has successfully recovered Rs. 309.34 million following the resolution of a prolonged legal dispute over a commercial breach of contract. 

The dairy manufacturer officially announced the recovery in a disclosure to the Colombo Stock Exchange filed on April 2, 2026. The filing confirmed that the recovery stems from long-standing legal proceedings instituted by the company to reclaim owed funds, marking a significant victory for its corporate governance and legal enforcement teams.

​The injected capital is expected to have a material positive impact on the company’s bottom line, bolstering an already resilient financial performance. To put the scale of this recovery into perspective, Lanka Milk Foods recorded a standalone pre-tax profit of Rs. 1.71 billion for the year ended March 31, 2025. The sudden influx of Rs. 309.3 million represents an immediate cash injection that will be recorded as ‘other income’ in the financial statements for the period ending March 31, 2026, providing a substantial year-end boost to its profitability.

​While the latest stock exchange filing did not disclose the specific identity of the opposing party or the exact nature of the contract, historical Supreme Court records reveal that Lanka Milk Foods has been actively engaged in enforcing strict commercial compliance over the years. Past commercial high court and supreme court appeals involving the company have dealt with unfulfilled supplier agreements, such as disputes over performance bonds, unpaid debts, and the delivery of packaging materials. The successful enforcement of this particular multi-million-rupee claim highlights the company’s persistence in defending its commercial interests and recovering corporate assets through the judicial system.
