Indian biz delegation explores healthcare, infra investments in SL

A high-level Indian business delegation, led by the International Trade and Delegation Federation of Chambers (ITDFC), concluded a four-day visit to Sri Lanka last week, highlighting a renewed momentum in bilateral trade and investment ties, particularly in healthcare, infrastructure and cross-border services.

The delegation, led by ITDFC Chief Operating Officer Bency George, comprised industry representatives from healthcare, infrastructure, trade and investment sectors. The March 24-27 visit focused on strengthening institutional linkages and identifying new areas for economic collaboration, at a time when Sri Lanka is positioning itself for investment-led growth.

The delegation held discussions with senior Sri Lankan leadership, including Secretary to President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof, Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka Secretary General and CEO Tilan Wijesooriya, Health and Mass Media Secretary Anil Jasinghe, Economic Development Deputy Minister Nishantha Jayaweera and Fisheries Ministry Secretary B.K. Kolita Kamal Jinadasa.

The officials on both sides highlighted a convergence of priorities around investment facilitation and sectoral collaboration, with particular emphasis on healthcare, pharmaceuticals, wellness, infrastructure and trade.

Yusoof noted that the ITDFC’s approach aligns with Sri Lanka’s push towards investment-led growth, while Wijesooriya underscored the role of such engagements in strengthening institutional cooperation and trade ties.  Jasinghe pointed to the growing relevance for healthcare collaboration in the current global context, while Jinadasa described the engagement as a step towards deeper economic cooperation. Jayaweera said such initiatives open new avenues for sustainable sectoral partnerships.

Alongside government-level meetings, the delegation also participated in business-to-business engagements, identifying opportunities in medical value travel, cross-border healthcare services, infrastructure development and trade expansion.

As part of the visit’s outcomes, the ITDFC invited the Sri Lankan government and industry stakeholders to participate in the SEHAT 2026 Global Medical Value Travel and Healthcare Investment Summit, scheduled to be held in Kerala on July 14 and 15.

“This engagement reflects the ITDFC’s commitment to advancing structured economic partnerships through high-level dialogue and actionable collaboration. Sri Lanka remains a key strategic partner and this visit has laid a strong foundation for long-term, high-impact cooperation across the trade, investment and healthcare sectors,” George said.
