Hellmann and MAS Holdings representatives at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new facility in Kimbulapitiya, Sri Lanka
Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and MAS Holdings are expanding their logistics footprint in Sri Lanka by developing a new fashion-focused contract logistics hub near the country’s main international airport, as both firms position themselves to capture the growing demand for integrated apparel supply chain solutions.
The facility, located in Kimbulapitiya in Sri Lanka’s Western province, will operate under Hellmann MAS Supply Chain, the joint venture formed by the two companies in 2018.
The hub is situated about six kilometres from Bandaranaike International Airport and is expected to serve as a regional fashion logistics centre within Hellmann’s South Asia network.
The move comes as global apparel supply chains increasingly prioritise speed, flexibility and end-to-end logistics integration amid the shifting sourcing patterns and pressure on delivery timelines.
The new facility spans more than 8,000 square metres and is designed to handle a range of fashion logistics operations. It includes dual-zone humidity and climate control systems and solar-powered infrastructure, while also supporting regional distribution across Asia, Africa and Europe.
Hellmann said the investment aligns with its ‘Forward 2030’ strategy, which identifies fashion logistics as a key long-term growth segment within its global operations.
“Sri Lanka combines world-class manufacturing and contract logistics capabilities with agile fashion supply chains, making it a trusted partner for global brands. With this new built-to-suit facility, we are strengthening the end-to-end fashion logistics capabilities of Hellmann MAS Supply Chain, our mutual joint venture with MAS Holdings,” said Hellmann Worldwide Logistics Regional COO Contract Logistics IMEA Patrick Grzywa.
For MAS Holdings, the investment forms part of a broader push to strengthen Sri Lanka’s position within the global apparel value chain, while moving beyond traditional manufacturing into integrated supply chain services.
“This investment reflects MAS’ continued commitment to strengthening Sri Lanka’s position as a globally competitive apparel hub,” said MAS Holdings Chief Operating Officer and Hellmann MAS Supply Chain Board Member Shakthi Ranatunge.
“Through our partnership with Hellmann, we are moving beyond traditional garment manufacturing to enable more integrated, end-to-end supply chain solutions for global brands. This facility enhances our ability to offer speed and agility while supporting the development of a more resilient and future-ready apparel ecosystem in Sri Lanka,” he added.
The project builds on the long-standing collaboration between the two firms, combining Hellmann’s global freight and contract logistics capabilities with MAS Holdings’ apparel manufacturing and supply chain expertise.
