Germany to provide EUR 924,000 grant for energy-efficient buildings programme

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the signing of a tripartite agreement to implement a partnership programme aimed at promoting energy-efficient and climate-resilient buildings in Sri Lanka with financial assistance from the Federal Government of Germany.

The programme will be implemented under the technical cooperation agreement between the governments of Germany and Sri Lanka, with the support of the German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

The initiative will be monitored by the Ministry of Energy and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Sri Lanka.

The main objective of the programme is to assist Sri Lanka in developing policies, institutional frameworks and technical capabilities required for the maintenance and promotion of energy-efficient and climate-resilient buildings.

Accordingly, Cabinet approval has been granted to Energy Minister to sign a tripartite agreement between the Ministry of Energy, the Department of External Resources and the local representatives of GIZ to implement the programme.

The project will be funded through a grant of EUR 924,063, equivalent to approximately Rs. 314 million, provided by the German government.  (CPS)
