Sri Lanka’s national tea sales recorded a decline in February 2025, with the average price per kilogram dropping to Rs. 1,168.93 (US$ 3.96). This represents a Rs. 16.50 (US$ 0.07) decrease compared to the January 2025 average of Rs. 1,185.43 (US$ 4.03).
Year-on-year, the average for February 2025 also showed a decline from Rs. 1,320.71 (US$ 4.25) in February 2024, marking a drop of Rs. 151.78 (US$ 0.29).
The year-to-date national sales average for 2025 stood at Rs. 1,177.35 (US$ 4.00), reflecting a decrease of Rs. 116.43 (US$ 0.11) when compared to the 2024 average of Rs. 1,293.78 (US$ 4.11).
An analysis of tea sales by elevation revealed mixed results for February 2025. All elevations, except for High Grown, recorded a decline compared to the previous month.
The High Grown category showed a negative variance in Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) terms, but recorded a positive gain in US$ terms year-on-year. In contrast, the Mid Grown and Low Grown categories experienced negative variances in both LKR and US$ terms year-on-year.
