The Excise Department of Sri Lanka has achieved up to 110 percent of the stipulated revenue target meant for the first quarter of the year 2026, an official said.

The Finance Ministry has set a revenue target of Rs.245 billion for the Department of Excise for the year 2026, being one of its three main revenue generating arms.  A Deputy Commissioner told the Daily Mirror yesterday that from January 1 to March 15th, the Department has earned Rs.49.6 billion as revenue from taxes, which is about 110 percent from the stipulated target.  The official said it is significant to note that the achieved amount is also revenue generated up to March 15th, even without calculating the revenue collected during the last two weeks of the first quarter.  The Department has streamlined the tax collection process on the instructions of Excise Commissioner General M. B. N. A. Premarathna, the official added.
