Eiger hosts Gelato Masterclass in Sri Lanka

Eiger Holdings marked a historic moment for Sri Lanka’s culinary landscape by hosting the first-ever Gelato Masterclass on March 12th at Monarch Imperial. 

Designed to introduce and elevate the gelato industry in the country, the event brought together ICETEAM1927 and FABBRI1905, two globally renowned names in gelato craftsmanship. The overwhelming response led to the addition of a second session, with a diverse audience of students, home bakers, entrepreneurs, gelateria owners, and leading ice cream manufacturers in attendance.

The highlight of the event was Eiger’s exclusive dealership announcement with ICETEAM1927 and FABBRI1905, a strategic move aimed at revolutionizing Sri Lanka’s gelato industry through a one-stop-shop approach for machinery, ingredients, and expert guidance.

Speaking at the event, Naveen Galhenage, Executive Director of Eiger Holdings, emphasized the immense potential for growth in the Sri Lankan gelato market: “We initially planned for a single session, but the overwhelming demand compelled us to add another. The gelato industry is still in its infancy here, yet with Sri Lanka’s rising tourism numbers, foodservice establishments can differentiate themselves by embracing this concept. However, customers often struggle to distinguish gelato from ice cream and soft serve, making industry education a necessity. That’s why Eiger took the lead in organizing this masterclass - bringing in experts to share knowledge and elevate the industry.”

The event featured an in-depth session led by Jacopo Chelli, Gelato Chef & Export Area Manager of ICETEAM1927, who provided insights into gelato-making fundamentals, ingredient quality, and advanced machinery such as Cubo2, Compacta4, and the CK-N blast freezer series. Guests were treated to a live demonstration, allowing them to experience the precision and artistry behind authentic gelato making.
