Cargills Food City celebrates Sinhala and Tamil New Year with ‘Aluth Irai Avuruddai’ festival

In celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Cargills Food City brought festive joy to its customers with the ‘Aluth Irai Avuruddai’ festival—a two-day celebration held on the 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th of April at 12 selected Food City outlets across the island. 

The event was a showcase of tradition, community and celebration, designed to bring families together during this special time of year. Staying true to the spirit of Avurudu, Cargills Food City created an immersive cultural experience filled with fun activities for all ages, traditional Avurudu games and entertainment that reflected the warmth and togetherness of the New Year season. 

Adding a burst of festive colour to each location were a wide range of stalls selling clothing, linen, bags, pottery, handicrafts, costume jewellery, and of course, all-time favourite Avurudu sweetmeats. The curated vendors gave customers the chance to explore and purchase locally made products, adding a charming village-fair feel to the festival, supporting local small-business entrepreneurs. The ‘Aluth Irai Avuruddai’ festival brought smiles to thousands of shoppers and their families, with Cargills Food City staff also enthusiastically taking part in the celebrations.
