On first of January 2025, Calorie Counter marked a significant milestone – 10 years of operations. From its humble beginnings on 1 January 2015, the pioneering restaurant has grown to become Sri Lanka’s first and only health food restaurant chain, navigating a journey filled with challenges and triumphs.
“Thriving for a decade in the ever-changing food industry is itself a victory and we are proud to have made an impact both locally and internationally. Calorie Counter was birthed as one person’s attempt to change their lives, and yet today, ten years later we have helped transformed the lives of many. Our customer loyalty over this decade is testament to the impact that we have had on their loves”, said Founder of Calorie Counter, Duaine Peiris.
Over the years, Calorie Counter has expanded its presence beyond Sri Lanka, successfully opening franchise outlets in Kuwait and the Maldives. The chain’s core purpose remains steadfast: to influence the food industry positively by inspiring healthier lifestyles and supporting individuals on their health journeys. The chain currently runs several restaurants in Negombo and at the Galle Fort, apart from a cloud kitchen that caters to the needs of hundreds of health conscious customers.
“We take pride in being a part of countless lives transformed through clean eating and nutritional support. Even during challenging periods like the Covid pandemic, we stayed true to our vision, remaining resilient and focused on our goals”, Peiris added.
What began as a health-focused restaurant has today evolved into a multifaceted brand, offering solutions for sports nutrition, workplace wellness, and child nutrition. From planned partnerships with gyms and sports arenas to introducing workplace and school nutrition programs, Calorie Counter continues to push boundaries in promoting healthier communities.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to our vision of becoming a global brand with local roots. By leveraging current trends in technology and AI, we aim to turn a new leaf in the food industry, enhancing the way people experience and approach nutrition”, Peiris also said.
