CCISL seminar to explore green energy solutions to lower electricity cost



The Chamber of Construction Industry of Sri Lanka (CCISL) is to host an insightful seminar/webinar on ‘Possible Green Energy Solutions to Lower Electricity Cost’.


The event will take place on March 6, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 7 and will also be accessible online via Microsoft Teams.  


This seminar aims to explore viable green energy solutions to reduce electricity expenses and increase the nation’s renewable energy share.  


The event will be opened by CCISL President Architect Jayantha Perera.  


The following experts will deliver crucial insights:  


Damith Kumarasinghe of Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka on ‘Our Potential for Electricity Generation from Green Energy Services’, Ceylon Electricity Board Chief Engineer Generation Planning Engineer Eranga Jayarathna on ‘Causes for Higher Electricity Cost and Our Possible Vulnerability to Climate Change’, Geotech (Pvt.) Ltd Managing Director Engineer Parakrama Jayasinghe on ‘Challenges to Increasing Green Electricity Share to 70 percent by 2030’ and Smart Grids Specialist Prof. Janaka B. Ekanayake on ‘How to Overcome Problems of Grid Connectivity to Green Electricity’.  


The seminar is part of a broader initiative under the CCI - HWK Vocational Training Improvement Project, which aims to enhance the quality of vocational training in the construction sector—especially in green technologies.  
The overall objective of this initiative is to ensure that better trained skilled workers in the construction sector contribute to building the green economy and strengthening the Sri Lankan economy. 


As part of this initiative, training programmes in solar energy will be conducted to equip vocational instructors and industry professionals with the skills needed to design, install and maintain solar power systems.
