The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) this week launched its transformative 2025 curriculum, marking a significant shift in the role of Chartered Accountants.
The 2025-2030 curriculum introduces a series of game-changing features that reflect the changing demands of the global business environment.
According to CA Sri Lanka, Chartered Accountants are no longer confined to traditional financial roles and will emerge as strategic business leaders, technology-driven professionals and ethical communicators.
“The new CA curriculum will ensure they are prepared to steer organisations through complex challenges and opportunities,” CA Sri Lanka said.
As the profession evolves beyond traditional financial expertise, the new curriculum equips Chartered Accountants to lead in a rapidly changing business landscape, shaped by digitisation, artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability. It fosters technical excellence, ethical leadership and strategic impact, ensuring accountants are prepared for emerging challenges.
With a strong focus on AI-driven financial analysis, data analytics and automation, the curriculum empowers accountants to deliver strategic insights and drive business decisions. Digital literacy and sustainability are also integrated to meet the evolving stakeholder expectations. Centred on three key pillars—Trusted, Strategic and Storyteller—it enhances the capabilities of future Chartered Accountants, positioning them as influential leaders in the profession.
Beyond core technical knowledge, the curriculum integrates integrity skills, power skills and enabling skills, ensuring that Chartered Accountants are prepared to lead through innovation and change. It is aligned with the international standards, including the International Education Standards of the International Federation of Accountants, the global accountancy body, ensuring global competitiveness. A key feature in the new curriculum is the Capstone Module, aimed at strengthening real-world application, enabling students to integrate their knowledge into strategic decision-making.
The curriculum is structured across three levels—Business, Corporate and Strategic—ensuring a clear progression from foundational knowledge to advanced application. This ensures that Chartered Accountants not only possess essential technical knowledge but are also equipped to solve real-world business problems, preparing them to lead with trust, think strategically and communicate with impact.
