The Asiri Academy of Health Sciences (AAHS), a gateway to educational excellence in healthcare and Sunway University, one of Malaysia’s leading universities, signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the first articulation pathway for Sunway University in Sri Lanka.
The signing ceremony was attended by distinguished representatives from both institutions, including Tan Sri Sir Dr. Jeffrey Cheah KBE AO, Chairman and Founder of Sunway Group as well as Chancellor of Sunway University, Sunway Group President Tan Sri Chew Chee Kin, Softlogic Group Chairman/Managing Director Ashok Pathirage, Asiri Academy of Health Sciences CEO Dr. Manjula Karunaratne and Asiri Academy of Health Sciences Director Nadeeka Jayasinghe.
Poignantly, the AAHS is the first healthcare education institute in Sri Lanka to have partnered Sunway University to create new opportunities for Sri Lankan students to be able to pursue international healthcare education, even as soon as after their G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations. Students awaiting their Advanced Level examination results are also eligible to enrol.
The MoU enables the students who have completed the AAHS Foundation in Health Sciences to progress directly into three prestigious undergraduate programmes at Sunway University i.e., the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Medical Biotechnology and Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology. More articulation pathways are currently being explored to the full range of degree programmes offered by Sunway University.
The innovative pathway allows the students to begin their healthcare education journey immediately after their G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination, with a minimum of five credit passes required for entry. Upon completing the eight-month foundation programme at the AAHS, the students can seamlessly transition to Sunway University, significantly accelerating their academic progression.
Pathirage said, “The partnership represents a significant advancement in healthcare education for Sri Lankan youth. Enabling students to begin their healthcare education journey as early as age 16 or 17, the AAHS is creating a fast-track route to globally recognised qualifications in high-demand fields.”
AO added, “The partnership between Sunway University and the AAHS seeks to expand access to high-quality transnational education for Sri Lankan students and equip them for successful careers. We look forward to working with the AAHS in providing world-class education and impactful research that transcends borders and positively impacts communities worldwide. This is part of the broader collaboration between Sunway Group and Asiri Health Group that will include joint research, knowledge and expertise exchange as well as business opportunities between the two leading organisations.”
The AAHS is a premier healthcare education institution in Sri Lanka, offering comprehensive programmes designed to nurture future healthcare professionals through theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
