The American College of Higher Education in Dehiwala has officially partnered with Seneca Polytechnic in Toronto, Canada, to offer affordable and globally recognized higher education opportunities to Sri Lankan students.
Formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding, this landmark international education partnership introduces an innovative undergraduate degree transfer pathway in the fields of business administration and computer science.
Under the newly introduced one-plus-two transfer pathway, Sri Lankan students are given the opportunity to complete the first year of their bachelor’s degree in Sri Lanka at the American College of Higher Education. They can then seamlessly transfer to Seneca Polytechnic in Canada to complete the remaining two years of their study.
This initiative allows students to earn a globally recognized Canadian qualification while significantly reducing the overall cost of studying abroad, alleviating the immediate financial burden typically associated with full overseas study.
The partnership was officially launched on 8 May with the visit of Seneca Polytechnic President David Agnew and Seneca International Executive Director Prashant Srivastava. The launch ceremony, held at the American College of Higher Education, was attended by the college’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sherryn Yaseen, Director of Operations Victor S. Patrick, and Director of Studies Dr. Padmini Sirimanne, alongside faculty members, students, parents, and representatives from leading schools across the country. Addressing the gathering, Agnew emphasized the growing importance of international academic partnerships and highlighted the shared values of academic excellence, student success, and innovation between the two institutions. He noted that the collaboration would open doors for Sri Lankan students to access world-class Canadian education and international career opportunities while allowing them to begin their studies closer to home. Agnew further stated that the partnership reflects a strong commitment to empowering young Sri Lankans with globally competitive education pathways that remain accessible to local families.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Yaseen explained that the vision of the American College of Higher Education has always been to create international opportunities for Sri Lankan youth through quality education partnerships. She highlighted that for nearly three decades since its founding in 1995, the institution has established a strong reputation for academic excellence, guiding thousands of students toward higher education opportunities in countries including Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
During the event, Srivastava presented details of the degree transfer pathways, explaining how students would benefit academically, professionally, and personally through exposure to Canadian higher education and global industry practices. The ceremony concluded with an interactive question and answer session, which allowed enthusiastic students and parents to engage directly with representatives from both institutions regarding admissions, transfer opportunities, student support services, and future career prospects in Canada.
