Bank of Ceylon (BoC) yesterday said its General Manger D.M. Gunasekera has been placed on leave to facilitate an independent and impartial investigation into certain key functional areas of the bank.
BoC Chairman Ronald Perera in a statement said it has become “necessary to determine the exposures to risk of several key functional areas of the bank as well as to conduct special purpose audits, via the deployment of internal and external auditors.”
He said he and the bank’s director board are deeply committed to sustain and enhance the bank’s reputation.
Perera assured that they would take all steps to complete these investigations and clear the issues, within a short period of time.
Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake on Monday said General Manager D.M. Gunasekera had been suspended with immediate effect on charges including abuse of power and corruption.
