UNP Polonnarauwa District Member of Parliament Earl Gunasekera has decided to vote with the government for constitutional reforms when the proposals are presented in Parliament next week.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online the UNP MP said that he has already informed the UNP working committee about his decision to support the government proposals and is even ready to face any action by the party over his decision.

The UNP MP noted that the party, over the years had taken wrong decisions and hopes that things will change at least now when the government presents the constitutional reforms proposals for a vote next week.

He also noted that the UNP must come out of its “traditional” thinking of opposing everything the government or President Mahinda Rajapaksa puts forward. (Daily Mirror online)

Earl has to secure his business. Very natural and understandable feedback in present antidemocratic environment.

    Gane Friday, 03 September 2010 10:52 AM

Of course. All are doing a business in the name of public.

Select the right time to auction the post of MP for highest price. History will curse them for disgraceful act being commited.

It is time UNP wakes up from this slumber and kick Ranil and Karu upstairs as Senior Leader and Senior Deputy Leader and made Sajit the Leader, Dayasiri the General Secretary. UNP ship is sinking with the current leadership's clumsy work.

    IND Friday, 03 September 2010 06:57 AM

Are you applying same theory to Karu as well ??

    IND Friday, 03 September 2010 06:56 AM

Why blame Ranil for everything? it is the voters who have put these people in power.

    Geronimo Friday, 03 September 2010 02:01 AM

Thanks to Ranil, life is easy for the 'frogs'!

Smart Aleck Thursday, 02 September 2010 11:14 PM

When will Ranil wake up to reality?

    Ranjan Thursday, 02 September 2010 07:12 PM

Well these new reforms are clearly not for the country to develop, but for the current president to remain in power for many years. The UNP and the JVP are 100% right in opposing this move, but it looks like the government will win it by more than 10 votes required for a 2/3rds majority.
